This Community Design Collaborative pro-bono feasibility study for Tabernacle Evangelical Lutheran Church (TELC), a small urban congregation situated in West Philadelphia for 112 years, examines and re-envisions the Church’s existing facilities as a community hub. This project was awarded through a design grant with the Community Design Collaborative (Collaborative). Working under the guidance of the Collaborative, the architects led a team of engineers, historic preservationists, cost estimators and developmental consultants to assess the physical state of the Church’s buildings and study opportunities for economic sustainability through expanded income-generating programming, new construction, and community outreach. Informed by an extensive community-wide survey and multiple community meetings, the final feasibility report provides TELC with three options to be used in pursuit of developmental funding opportunities. This report was published by the Collaborative.
