YARMOUTH  PASSIVE

Located in a heavily wooded area, this project required intense study to appropriately develop a site largely undisturbed and without access to direct sunlight due to the dense tree canopy.  The home is composed within a small footprint to reduce the energy required for heating and cooling while minimizing dependency on mechanical systems. Designed to meet PHIUS+ 2015 Source Zero Certification, the project employs a continuous air-tight layer, fresh air ventilation and increased exterior insulation. It moves further by eliminating foam insulation, synthetic siding and gas-fired equipment. Instead, these elements are replaced with natural building materials and energy generated on-site. Additional considerations include a future phased expansion: a garage, additional guest quarters and shared deck areas.
