FIREBALL

Adaptive Reuse

Philadelphia: Kensington

Fireball repurposes a vacant warehouse into the headquarters of a Philadelphia-based print shop. This retrofit centers around a ‘printing floor’ where large-format printers and binding equipment have taken the place of 1940’s shop machinery. Wood rafters and existing masonry are highlighted on a second floor loft as the backdrop for meeting rooms and co-working spaces. The design team reimagined the tired exterior by prioritizing cost effective upgrades to create an impactful street presence. This retrofit of an industrial shell is one of many that has contributed to the resurgence of Kensington’s artisan commercial scene.
